It's been a whirlwind of a year at Bluebird Care Wakefield and Kirklees, and we wanted to share some of our best bits with you before the New Year breaks in!

Supporting customer dignity

In February we partnered with the team at Roche Legal, to help promote dignity within the workplace. This was our first-ever collaboration with Roche Legal, award-winning solicitors offering practical legal services designed to make life easier, but our beliefs that dignity is key when it comes to providing for our customers aligned, making our dignity afternoon tea a huge success.

Joined by our friends from The Prince of Wales HospiceEitex, and We Are Wakefield, we enjoyed a lovely afternoon consisting of delicious food and good company while promoting the importance of customer dignity.

By selling raffle tickets and collecting donations from our community, we raised over £500 in aid of the Prince of Wales Hospice during our dignity tea!

No time for snow angels!

When West Yorkshire was hit by thick layers of snow in March, you may recall that our Care Coordinator at the time, Janice, was in the news!

Due to the severity of the snow, some of our care assistants were unable to make it out of their houses, but Janice wasn't going to allow our customers to go without care. She drove around the Kirklees area, despite the thick snow, between customers' houses, and when her car couldn't push through the snow, she completed the rest of the trip on foot!

Understandably, this good news story was picked up by multiple local news outlets, including InYourArea and Huddersfield Hub.

Speaking on the matter, our very own customer, Mr J, said:

“When the snow set in, I was not expecting to venture outside for several days, let alone to welcome any visitors. Imagine my surprise and delight when Janice arrived for a visit! Janice makes sure that I have everything I need and is a wonderful company, so it was a real joy to see her despite the awful weather outside.”

Wakefield's Employee of the Year

More recently, our Care Manager, Janice Hislop, was nominated by our office team for Employee of the Year at the Wakefield Business Awards. After being short-listed in the top three nominees, Janice was awarded Employee of the Year!

We attended the first-ever Wakefield Business Award ceremony, hosted by We Are Wakefield, last year, where we were awarded Employer of the Year for the Wakefield district. In this year's Wakefield Business Awards, held again by We Are Wakefield, there were over ten categories, each with a winner of its own. We are so proud and pleased to say that our Care Manager was among them.

Janice was even featured in the Wakefield Express!

A Big Change

Perhaps the biggest news we have had in 2023 is the change in ownership that took place in May. Bluebird Care Wakefield and Kirklees was founded by Narinder Gill of Elevate Multi-Academy Trust over ten years ago, and in May of this year, after incredible growth, award wins, and memories, she handed the business over to business owners Harvir and Madhsoodan Kaur.

Although this was quite an uncertain time for our staff and customers, Harvir and Madhsoodan have stepped into the light with positive and reassuring attitudes, keen to maintain the high-quality care we pride ourselves on.

But our Directors are not the only new faces we've seen this year! In our office, we have welcomed Gail as our new Field Care Supervisor and Chloe as Care Coordinator. Both joined our team with an extensive knowledge of the care industry, which has aided them in their new roles fantastically!

We've welcomed new faces and witnessed incredible achievements this year, but we can't wait to see what 2024 has in store for us!
