Narinder Gill, Director of Bluebird Care (Wakefield) was invited to Balne Lane Coffee club on the Queen's 90th Birthday

After singing Happy Birthday to the Queen and sharing cake, Narinder, in her role as a dementia champion led a dementia friend’s session with over 35 people who regularly attend the club.
This was an opportunity to dispel some common myths around dementia and raise an awareness
Joan Neal, manager of the club proudly shared why she felt the club was important and becoming Dementia Friendly was essential

‘it is about bringing people from the community together to chat, have a coffee and play some bingo and at the same discuss concerns, whilst raising awareness of key issues’

The energy, excitement and passion that Joan uses to run the club is infectious and as you walk into the center you are warmly welcomed and become a part of a rich community
There is a growing recognition that loneliness is a serious problem and thank you to the dedication of Joan the community in Balne Lane is thriving
