Overnight Care Services & Costs

For those looking for overnight home care, we offer two types of service: 'sleep-in' and 'waking night.' These services can be used in conjunction with live-in care or daytime home care visits.

Bluebird Care Rushcliffe & Melton can provide overnight home care as a stand alone service, or in combination with regular day-time home care visits or live-in care. Two primary models of overnight care exist: sleep-in and waking night care. Each has its own distinct features, benefits, and considerations that cater to the diverse needs of the individual requiring support and their families. Understanding these differences is crucial in making informed decisions about the type of care that best suits your circumstances. Let's delve into the nuances of both sleep-in and waking night overnight home care.

Sleep-in

Sleep-in care involves a care assistant staying at the customer's residence throughout the night, usually sleeping but available to assist if needed. Here are some key features:

  1. Availability: With sleep-in care, the carer is present on-site throughout the night, providing reassurance and assistance if required. However, they are allowed and expected to sleep, with the exception of being woken only for emergencies or specific needs (typically no more than 1-2 times per night).

  2. Cost-Effectiveness: Sleep-in care is often more cost-effective compared to waking night care, as the care assistant's time is primarily spent resting (asleep) during the night, unless their assistance is needed. This can be beneficial for individuals who require minimal overnight support.

  3. Suitability: Sleep-in care is typically suitable for individuals who are relatively independent during the night but may need occasional help or supervision. It's often chosen for those who feel secure knowing that assistance is available if necessary but do not require constant monitoring.

Waking Night

Waking night care involves a care assistant staying awake and vigilant throughout the night to provide continuous support and assistance. Here's what sets it apart:

  1. Continuous Support: Unlike sleep-in care, waking night care ensures continuous support and supervision throughout the night. Carers remain awake and attentive, ready to respond to any needs or emergencies promptly (tpyically more than 2 times per night).

  2. Intensive Monitoring: Waking night care is particularly suitable for individuals with complex needs or conditions that require regular monitoring, medication administration, or assistance with personal care tasks during the night.

  3. Higher Cost: Due to the intensive nature of waking night care, it often comes with a higher cost compared to sleep-in care. The care assistant's active presence and ongoing support contribute to increased expenses.

Choosing the Right Option

When deciding between sleep-in and waking night overnight home care, it's essential to consider the individual's specific needs, preferences, and level of independence during the night. Factors such as medical requirements, level of supervision needed, and budgetary constraints should also be taken into account.

Bluebird Care Rushcliffe & Melton can provide valuable guidance in determining the most suitable option. Ultimately, the goal is to ensure that the individual receives the appropriate level of support and assistance to maintain their safety, well-being, and quality of life during the night hours.

If you primarily require support during the day time and your overnight care needs are minimal, it might be more cost-effective to consider live-in care as an alternative option.
