Hampers from the Heart

At Bluebird Care Northallerton, Thirsk and Catterick we've launched a new initiative to warm the community’s hearts as the temperature drops. As your local home care specialist we have started delivering Hampers from the Heart to our customers who are facing personal challenges as a way to help keeping spirits high this winter.

As integral members of the local community, we are keen to ensure that those in our care feel supported when they are having a tough day.

Once a month, members of our care team will nominate a customer to receive a selection of their favourite treats, as suggested by their friends and family members, or by our care assistants themselves as they know our customers so well! We hope that this act of kindness will help to foster a sense of community goodwill that endures long beyond the festive period.

Two of our customers have already received a beautifully packaged hamper, stuffed with goodies such as luxury jam, new handkerchiefs, and artisanal chocolates. 86-year-old Easingwold resident Chris was reduced to tears after his Care Assistant Claire gifted him with a selection of sweet treats to celebrate his return from a number of tiring hospital admissions.

Likewise, 89 year old Northallerton local Joan was pleasantly surprised with a hamper to cheer her up, following a very difficult five days without heating or water due to a boiler failure. Joan, too, shed a tear and said she was “over the moon” with her hamper, the contents of which were personalised by her regular Care Assistant Jo, who is also one of our longest serving team members.

Lauren Smith, Registered Care Manager of Bluebird Care Northallerton, Thirsk and Catterick, said:

At Bluebird Care, we aim to provide people with the quality of kind support that we’d expect for our own families. Our Hampers from the Heart seek to reinforce this mission by offering a personalised pick-me-up to customers who need a bit of extra care. We want the communities that we serve to know that we will be on-hand to offer comfort, guidance, or just a friendly face whenever they need us.

Chris, customer of Bluebird Care Northallerton, Thirsk and Catterick, said:

Times have been tough recently, but my Care Assistant Claire has been absolutely wonderful and this hamper is the latest example of her tireless support. When I learned that Claire had organised a care package containing all of my favourite things, it felt like Christmas had come early! I am very excited to share the treats with my wife now that I'm home after being in hospital, and am hugely grateful to have a friend like Claire.
