Rob has received additional training so he can be used as a falls team resource!

Our staff at Bluebird Care Newcastle and South Tyneside are always heightening their skills and knowledge.

Rob has recently gained invaluable experience, through the North East Ambulance Service, volunteering in Community First Responder.

“I am currently a volunteer Community First Responder for North East Ambulance Service. This involves logging on as a resource that the ambulance dispatcher can send to category 1 and 2 calls, so lifesaving urgent care can be provided until an ambulance can get there. I have now received additional training so I can be used as a falls team resource. This involves responding to people who have fallen and can’t get up. As the priority for falls is so low, it may take hours for an ambulance to arrive, so I would be tasked to safely lift the person using an inflatable cushion. The photograph is of me receiving the equipment at the end of the training. I have already integrated some of the knowledge and skills gained in this training into our own moving and positioning training in Bluebird, therefore giving carers a better understanding of what happens when a customer falls.”

At Bluebird Care we encourage growth within our staff, so they are always learning something new for themselves and others. In the future, Rob will now be able to share his experience with carers so they are more familiar with how to help a customer when they fall.
