What is Professional Care Workers Week?

Returning for only its third year, 2022’s Professional Care Workers Week is an invitation from The Care Workers Charity for social carers to come together virtually and to celebrate the outstanding effort of social care assistants and everything that makes this entire sector so special.

Running from 12th-16th September, Care Workers Week 2022 will offer four days of online webinars and panel discussions, with a theme focusing on focus on respect and recognition.

You can support Professional Care Workers Week directly by tuning in to the content throughout the week, or by sharing on social media using the hashtags #R&R and #PCWWeek20.

2022 so far at Bluebird Care Gosport!

Here at Bluebird Care Gosport we’re marking care workers week by looking back at just some of the highlights in what’s been an amazing calendar year so far for our dedicated team of social carers!

Claire celebrates nine years!

Care assistant ClaireClaire is one of the longer-serving members on our team of social care assistants, celebrating nine years with us in February and she still loves the role as much as she ever has. We talked to her last year for our piece for National Dementia Carers Day, where she shared her view on being a social care worker:

“I think people often don’t realise what caring for someone involves,” she said. “It isn’t all just sitting around, making a cup of tea and having a chat. It can be fairly mentally and physically challenging. And stressful sometimes too – but at the same time, very rewarding. I get a lot from it.”

Team members of the month!

This selection of lovely smiling faces were just some of the recipients of our monthly team member award…

Bluebird Care Assistant LouiseLouise was our Team Member of the Month for January, with the team noting she regularly went out of her way to collect customer medication.

Bluebird Care Assistant Jane

Jane was our Team Member of the Month for February. She was particularly praised for reporting customer concerns immediately and keeping detailed documents with lots of care notes. She also regularly picked up overtime to make sure our customers received the best quality of care possible!

Bluebird Care Assistant MariusOur Team Member of the Month for March was Marius! A live-in carer, he was recognised for his outstanding commitment to our customers and the high-level of care and companionship he brings to the role.

Bluebird Care Assistant TrishOur Team Member of the Month for April was Trish, a real ray of sunshine who faced health challenges of her own but never let that affect her work – and all of this while only being in her first month with the company! We love her big smile, and it brings an incredible amount of joy to our customers. She also went on to pass her probation in June!

Bluebird Care Assistant VickiIn May our Team Member of the Month was Vicki – who later that month celebrated her four-year anniversary with us in her role as a social care assistant supervisor!

We’d previously talked to Vicki on our blog about why she started working in care, where she explained:

“Bluebird Care were brilliant with me. They offered me great training, set me up on a round in my local area, offered me hours I was suitable for and even paid my mileage and travel time.

“I’m so glad I decided to go into caring and that I did it with Bluebird. They’ve just been incredibly supportive.”

Tackling loneliness with Rowner Community Trust

Two Bluebird Carers with a customer

A Bluebird carer helps a customerAlso in May was our first ever networking lunch, which we set up in partnership with Rowner’s Community Trust. The event had two purposes: it allowed young people hoping to become social care workers of some kind to meet social carers and customers alike. However, it also brought together our customers to tackle the issue of loneliness which has become so prevalent following the pandemic.

To make the event happen, we hired a minibus to collect customers from their homes and ferried them to the event, where a lot of fun and many smiles were shared by all!
