New Bluebird Care recruitment campaign showcases the ‘job security’ of the care industry

A new recruitment campaign launched by award-winning homecare provider, Bluebird Care, has been designed to highlight the benefits and job security of working in the care sector.

With several high-profile national employers announcing cuts and closures over the last few weeks, leaders in homecare are positively moving in the opposite direction.

Ben Davie, Director of Bluebird Care Lewisham & Southwark, said:

“We’re a growing industry! Whilst some of our big high street names such as Marks & Spencer and Natwest have announced job losses, the homecare sector is announcing job opportunities!

Employment in our industry is both covid-and-recession-proof. Unlike many industries which were forced to close during lockdown, care is an industry which never sleeps – and is immune to recessions. Our homecare businesses were operational, and our staff fully employed throughout the pandemic – and will continue to be so during the tough economic times ahead.”

Headlines from the last few weeks show that:

“Marks and Spencer announces 67 stores will close down in next 5 years” (The Express, 13-Oct 2022)

“NatWest bank to close 43 branches as it moves away from high street shops” (The Mirror, 13-Oct 2022)

“Royal Mail to cut up to 10,000 jobs as losses mount amid strike action” (The Telegraph, 14-Oct 2022)

Meanwhile there were “at least 165,000 vacancies across adult social care providers at the end of 2021-22” according to The Independent (13-Oct 2022).

“Demand for personal homecare is high and is growing. As the UK population ages, more and more people with an ever-increasing life-expectancy will require some sort of support to live independently at home,” added Ben.

According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), 19% of people aged over 65 need help with at least one activity of daily living, increasing to over 43% for the over 80’s.

According to Skills for Care, the number of people aged over 65 will increase by 32% by the year 2035. To meet the consequent increase in the demand for Home Care, they estimate that the social care workforce will need to increase by 29% – or 490,000 new jobs!

A significant number of these will need to be in highly skilled, high-paid managerial positions. Those gaining the relevant skills now will be highly employable and in demand for years to come. There’s never been a better opportunity for career development!

The new Bluebird Care recruitment campaign hopes to employ a lot more care assistants before Christmas, all of whom will take an active role in delivering high quality care and will be joining an industry that is both covid and recession-proof! care.
