On Tuesday 22 July we took 3 of our customers to a 'dementia cottage' in Beamish for the morning.

Beamish uses one of the 1940s houses for group sessions with older people and people living with dementia.

The house is full of objects collected years ago, all of which were used and handled by the customers who then guessed what these were used for.

An old folk singer was on hand singing old local songs which all of our customers knew and joined in with. One of our customers even produced a solo performance which was amazing.

Our customers were also handed a plant each, which was named after them and planted in the garden.

A special thanks to Sue our Care Manager and all of the care workers who gave up their time voluntarily to make this event possible.

I had the best time, the singing was great, sitting around the kitchen table and then having lunch. I love the idea of having the plant named after me ‘geordie’".

Mr M.

Thank you very much Bluebird Care for arranging my day. I loved every minute. I enjoyed identifying things from the past. The cottage was lovely. Sitting around the kitchen table and singing was a great experience."

Mr D.

I thoroughly enjoyed my day at Beamish, sitting with my friends singing and planting my plant which now has my name on. Loved my dinner."

 Mr B.

Loved the idea of the memorability box, identifying times gone by. That’s all my dad talked about on his return."
