Meet the team

Graham Carruthers

Director

Graham’s background is in business, where he trained as an architect and ran a busy Architectural practice, before using his management expertise to build and run a national charity in outdoor education and training.

He likes to support vulnerable people, and now uses his business and problem solving skills to ensure the Bluebird Care team are resourced and equipped to deliver high quality care for our customers.
Graham also wants to build strategic partnerships across the private and public sectors, to provide joined up services in Health and Social care, which are innovative and cost effective in meeting individual needs for the most vulnerable people.

Outside work Graham likes sailing, has been walking the Cornish Coast path with Carol, and is involved in community life through local church and club activities.

Carol Carruthers

Director

Carol is passionate about care in the community with 30 years NHS experience as a Health Visitor working with elderly, families and children. She loves to meet individual needs, finding solutions and bringing relief to improve quality of life for those who need it most.

Her second love is for teaching and mentoring, passing on her knowledge to a generation of student Nurses, Health Visitors and now Care Workers, encouraging them to provide the high standards of care she expects of herself.
She also has practical management expertise, working in multi-agency Health and Social Care teams, to encourage joined up services which can deliver high quality, person-centred care throughout the community.

At Bluebird Care Mid and West Cornwall, Carol sees these passions fulfilled in overseeing and supporting a skilled work force of carers to provide consistently high standards of care for our customers, who rely on us for meeting their daily needs.

Away from work, Carol keeps up with family and friends, and likes contributing to local church and community life. She has been walking the Cornish Coast path in easy stages, and enjoys fair weather sailing in warm places.

Caroline Sommerville

Registered Operations Manager

I have worked within Health and Social Care for over sixteen years, with a focus on working with people with learning disabilities, hearing loss, mental ill health, dual sensory impairment and the elderly. I have experience in managing Registered Care Homes and Domiciliary Care, and came to Bluebird Care as I saw it as an opportunity to develop professionally and to be an integral part of the growth and development of the company.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my husband and young son. I also enjoy films, music, horse-riding and skiing.

John Sommerville

Training Coordinator

I have worked within Health and Social Care for the past fifteen years and prior to that I was a Manager and Trainer for a national bookmakers.

I like being able to share my knowledge, skills and experience with people who attend my training courses and I love getting out and about meeting our customers and team members.

When I'm not at work I enjoy painting and drawing and spending time with my family.

Craig Peters

Area Manager

I started working in the care sector in 2013 and since then i have had experience in working in Residential and Nursing Homes. I started my career in care as a care assistant, getting the opportunity to work as a senior carer and progressing to assistant manager then deputy manager. I am now excited to be in my new role at Bluebird Care as an Area Manager. Alongside my career i have undertaken qualifications in first aid, leadership and management and a diploma in Adult Social Care. I enjoy meeting new people and making a difference in peoples lives. In my spare time, I love to spend time with my Wife Amy and my three children, whether it is out for a meal or walking my dogs Butch and Bonnie at the beautiful Cornish beaches or woods.

Claire Griffiths

Area Manager

I have worked in health and social care since 2002, whilst completing my diploma in social work. I worked until 2013 for Mencap. I began my journey as a support worker and worked my way up to become a team leader and then a service manager. Within Mencap, I worked in their outreach service and then their supported living services. I then moved to an independent company where I supported adults with learning disabilities and or mental ill-health and was lucky enough to support a gentleman to go to Portugal for a week to celebrate his 60th birthday. I then moved to working in a residential children’s home, and progressed from residential child care worker, to senior rccw and most recently to deputy children’s homes manager. I realised that I missed working with and supporting adults, so have returned to this and joined Bluebird Care. As well as my social work diploma, I have completed my level 4 in health and social care manager. When I am not at work, I enjoy walking and going to Boogie Bounce. My friends and family are important to me and I see them as much as I can.
