Bluebird Care Edinburgh Marks Carers Week by Celebrating Dedicated Carer

Published: 30/06/2021

We're proud to celebrate Mei Chen's 10 year anniversary with Bluebird Care Edinburgh.

In May, we celebrated one of our Care Assistants being with us for 10 years. Mei Chen is an exceptional member of our team and we’re proud that she is part of our family. It only seemed right to celebrate her during Carers Week.

Carers Week is a yearly campaign that seeks to recognise the contribution Carers make to families and communities throughout the UK. This year, with the focus of the week around ‘Making caring visible and valued’, one special team member at the home care provider is being recognised for their fantastic work over the years.

Mei has dedicated a decade of service to Bluebird Care Edinburgh. After training as a qualified nurse in China, further examinations in the United Kingdom meant she opted to become a Care Assistant instead. It is a job she has grown to love. Mei prides herself in the primary care she can give to her patients, the effects immediate and instantly rewarding.

Having eight years of experience working in care homes, she prefers home care. She believes it leaves both her and her customer more satisfied: Mei with her strong sense of achievement, and the customer with a more personalised and comfortable care regime.

Over ten years, Mei’s experiences have seen her care for a range of customers, all with different success stories. But at the heart of Mei’s admirable work, is a sense of contribution to the greater good. She takes pride in her contributions to society. Not everyone could rise to the challenge of being a carer. “Our customers need us. Our relatives need us. The world needs us. It’s a rewarding mission”. For Mei, its more than a job. It is an essential part of our society.

When asked to give advice to anyone considering a career path like Mei’s, she said: “It requires patience. Please give yourself time. Every individual has the potential to care for someone else, but not everyone is prepared to give it a chance or take the opportunity. It is an absolute privilege to be a carer”.

We asked Mei a few questions, watch below to find out what she had to say.
