Bluebird Care supports World Mental Health Day 2019

On 10th October Bluebird Care will be supporting Time To Change’s World Mental Health Day.

World Mental Health Day is an opportunity for all of us to raise awareness of mental health issues and advocate against social stigma.

This year’s theme is ‘suicide and suicide prevention’. According to Time To Change, every year close to 800,000 people globally take their own life and there are many more who attempt suicide. Every suicide is a tragedy that affects families, communities and has long-lasting effects on the people left behind. It is the leading cause of death among young people aged 20-34 years in the UK and is the second leading cause of death among 15-39 year olds globally.

This World Mental Health Day, we are encouraging everyone to get involved and address mental health stigma. We believe that mental health should not be something we are afraid to talk about, and the more we start conversations, the more we can support one another when we need it most. They have created a detailed activity pack here that suggests a range of activities and exercises for you and your staff to take part in, such as ‘how to check in with a colleague’ on page 10 and ‘identifying the DRIPS in your life’ on page 18. You can also find links to campaign materials and resources on page 24.

Our mental health is just as important as our physical health and is something that we should all look after. From our care assistants, to our customers, our office staff and our friends and family, no-one should struggle with their mental health alone.
