We all recognise that feeling. One minute you’re outdoors loving the hot rays shining down and giving you that healthy tanned glow; the next minute you feel exhausted and unwell.  For the elderly and anyone living with chronic health conditions such vascular disease or dementia, it is especially important to stay safe in the heat to avoid heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

8 Signs of Heat Exhaustion

  1. A headache
  2. Dizziness and confusion
  3. Loss of appetite and feeling sick
  4. Excessive sweating and pale, clammy skin
  5. Cramps in arms, legs and stomach
  6. Fast breathing or pulse
  7. Temperature of 38c or above
  8. Being very thirsty

Our team of professional carers are trained to ensure that all their elderly customers stay well in the heat.

You can keep safe too by following these 10 tips:-

  1. Plan ahead by listening to the weather forecast
  2. Stay hydrated in and outdoors
  3. Try to keep in the shade when enjoying the sun
  4. Alter the times you usually go out. Aim for earlier in the morning or the evening
  5. Wear loose fitting clothing
  6. Avoid a hot bath/shower
  7. Consider eating lighter summer foods such as salads
  8. Protect pets from the heat and keep them indoors more than usual
  9. Check on a friend or neighbour and have someone do the same for you
  10. Watch out for signs of heat exhaustion/stroke to raise the alarm and get appropriate help
