A Very Happy 100th Birthday To Customer Clara!

We recently celebrated with customer Clara, who has marked her 100th birthday with us here in Hounslow & Chiswick!
Care Supervisor Marina visited Clara on her birthday to take her a card and some flowers to say a big congratulations.
Clara, who was originally born and raised in Chelsea explained that she moved to Isleworth with her parents in her pre-teen years and then moved to Hounslow when she met her husband.
During the war, Clara's husband joined the Cold Steam Guards and served for six years. During this time, Clara looked after her two children Janet & Michael and following the war, she worked in a factory that made sheepskin bedroom slippers that were sold to a high end store.
If you want to do something in this world, go out and do it. You are the only person who can stop your dreams from happening. No one else.
Clara's advice as passed down from her father
During this time she got the sewing bug and taught herself to be an upholsterer she then worked from home before setting up her own upholstery business and employing three ladies to help her she did this for 25 years!
At age 50, she went to work at British Airways in the staff welfare department where she worked for ten years and retired at age 60. However, two days after retirement she was called back by Heathrow to continue working in the welfare department also as a pre-retirement advisor.
She would regularly hold meetings for staff members with 80 plus people in the room discussing their imminent retirement. She did this right up until she was 84 when she fully retired.
