There are around 850,000 in the UK with dementia, with over 40,000 under 65. In a very small number of people certain types of dementia can be inherited, with scientists investigating how dementia can run in the family.

The Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading charity for dementia, providing information and support to individuals as well as funding vital research with the hope to create lasting change for everyone affected by dementia.

This year’s theme for Dementia Action Week is to unite together, the Alzheimer’s Society is asking everyone across England, Wales and Northern Ireland to unite against dementia and take action. We hope to raise awareness of the condition across Havering, improving the care received and finding a cure that is so urgently needed.

Where possible, communities are encouraged to organise their own fundraising event to unite against dementia.

Bluebird Care Havering is supporting Dementia Action Week 2019 and will raising money for this important cause. They’ll be holding a disco themed fundraiser for their staff, customers and their family members, which will include, food and games.

Alvin Osei-Tutu, Director of Bluebird Care Havering, said:

The Alzheimer’s Society is sending out an important message this year of uniting together and taking action. By working together we can improve the care that those living with dementia receive, as well as work towards finding a cure for this life changing condition.  This year’s campaign is about coming together in communities and raising awareness of dementia across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
