A local homecare director decided to ‘lead from the front’ this past weekend by taking part in an Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk.

Alvin Osei-Tutu, Managing Director and Owner of Bluebird Care Havering raised £375 last Saturday to support those living with dementia.

He said: “Currently there are 850,000 people in the UK with dementia and this number is set to rise. The Alzheimer’s Society are leading the fight against dementia and we at Bluebird Care are 100% behind them!

Dementia affects us all at some point in our lives, so raising awareness of the condition at events like Memory Walks is so important.”

A Memory Walk is a sponsored walk for all ages and abilities to unite together to raise money to defeat dementia. The walks are spread across England, Wales and Northern Ireland and each walk will take on a different route through either a city, woodlands or a park.

This year over 110,000 people are expected to take part in walks - united, against dementia. The Alzheimer’s Society aims to raise over £9 million in 2018.

Alvin added: “We hope this £375 raised will go a long way to supporting those living with dementia here in Havering.”

Bluebird Care is a local provider of care in the home. They specialise in working with customers who live with dementia, physical and learning disabilities, and work alongside their families, social services, GPs and Clinical Commissioning Groups to ensure each person receives the care they need.
