The Meeting of Generations continues in Exmouth

Last year, we launched a new, inter-generational project with local Exmouth school Exeter Road Primary, as part of our Wellbeing Programme. This week, we will be visiting our new friends again to pick up where we left off and get back to some fun and games.

​The first event in 2017 was a huge success, where our customers joined the Early Years classroom for a mix of singing, reading and general play. It was wonderful to see all our customers interacting the young children, who were more than happy share their thoughts, toys and songs, and welcome our customers into their play groups. Two of our customers who visited the school are now in their 90s and were once teachers themselves. They especially enjoyed returning to the classroom and joining in with the children's play-based learning. Our customers who are socially isolated were soon happily playing snap with the children, and physically less-abled customers were literally running around playing tag. It was wellbeing truly in action. 

​Trough these new interactions and relationships with energetic, lively, active young children, we hope to strengthen the mental and emotional wellbeing of our customers, and help counterbalance the loneliness and boredom so many older people face on a daily basis. 

​This year, we are continuing this exciting strand of work under our Wellbeing Programme by working with primary schools in all of our Hub areas; Exmouth, East Devon and Exeter.
