Spotlight on our newest member of the Bedford Care Team

We asked our newest member of the Bedford Team, Vanessa, about how she has found working with us so far:

I am 39 yrs old, mother of 1 daughter and 4 stepchildren – all boys! I am a keen walker; I like hill walking especially in the Yorkshire Dales and coastal walks. I also enjoy visiting the Lake District and going for walks around the lakes. I enjoy reading and cake! Both baking and eating! I joined Bluebird Care on 25th October 2022.

I haven’t worked in care before, I think because I felt like I’m a naturally caring person and I always put others before myself, I thought it would be something I would enjoy. I helped to support my grandparents towards the end of their lives, alongside carers coming in. This is what made me start to think about becoming a care assistant. I found the skills assessment and training provided was so useful, I was nervous about not knowing anything. I found it really, really useful and it helped to build up my confidence.

When I went out on my first shadowing shifts the training really helped me to feel confident in the tasks I was completing for customers. Michele was my mentor when I started my shadowing shifts, she was a great mentor and helped me feel confident in my care skills. She talked me through everything and guided me as and when I needed it. She was really good and helpful.

I have found working at Bluebird Care amazing! I couldn’t have wished for a better start. I’ve found the whole team really nice and supportive. I feel like I can turn to the management team to talk if I need to. And the training and support is just amazing.

I think what I enjoy the most about working at Bluebird Care is the relationships I’m building with the customers, getting to know them and their routines. And I really enjoying working with my colleagues on double-up calls. I really do feel like part of team.
