Bluebird Care Exeter takes part in the Erasmus Project

Back in January we were pleased to have been approached by Exeter College to take part in the Erasmus Project, which sees a German student placed on a 6 week internship with us. Find out more about Loraine and her time spent with Bluebird Care Exeter here.

On Friday 18th March we were very sad to say goodbye to Loraine Lötkemann who had been with us for 6 weeks on a work placement from her home town Espelkamp, Germany.

Loraine was one of many German students taking part in the Erasmus Project which is a non-profit international student organisation. Their mission is to represent international students, providing opportunities for cultural understanding and self-development through work placements in other countries.

During her time with us, Loraine spent a day a week with each of the different departments we have here at Bluebird Care, from Coordination right through to Communications and Accounts! We wanted to give her wide and varied experiences to make the most of her time with us.

On her last day with us, the whole team got together to enjoy a pizza lunch to say thank you for her hard work and toast her future career successes. We also gave Loraine some Exeter and blue themed presents to remember us by!

We asked Loraine to write a few words about her time here at Bluebird Care, and this is what she said:

I started by internship in Exeter to gain work experiences in a different country. I really wanted to see the office culture in a different country and find the differences between German offices and English offices. I also wanted to learn a lot about the culture. Another point was to improve my English and feel more confident in talking in a foreign language.

I did my six week placement at Bluebird Care and I really enjoyed my time. The colleagues were very welcoming and helped me with my English.

I was in every department and I was able to see a lot of different work processes in the company. I was able to understand a lot about the care business even if I had no experience in it before.

The staff at Bluebird Care was always very supportive and sympathetic. They asked me always what I want to learn in the time and helped me out to find interesting things to do in my free time. One thing I noticed is that they were always very thankful for everything I did, which made everything very pleasant.

In this time I was able to improve my English greatly, because they include me in the everyday business. In a retrospective view I gained a lot of work experience which will help me in my future career.
