We are pleased to have recently presented our second community grant for 2019 to Age UK Tunbridge Wells, who will use the funds to fund a new lunch club aimed at reducing social isolation.

Age UK Tunbridge Wells will use the funds to create a new meeting point for the over 55s at Dowding House Day Centre in Paddock Wood. The centre will provide free lunches for socially isolated elderly people from the surrounding area.

Age UK Tunbridge Wells offers a wide range of services that have become vital to many elderly people in the local community, including chiropody, daycare, dementia support, exercise classes and computer literacy courses.

We are very grateful to Bluebird Care for its generous support, which will provide new opportunities to help isolated people to make new friends and access the care and support they require. By having this new base in Paddock Wood our reach will be expanded, and our services will become more readily available to members of the community. The lunches will offer elderly people the opportunity to socialise and enable the charity to signpost additional services to individuals who require support. Many of our services have a preventative aspect to them ensuring that people can retain their independence, while alleviating pressure on the local authority in its provision of social care.

Our Community Grant Scheme has been running for the past four years and supports local causes through the provision of a £250 grant to a different group three times a year.

We are delighted to be supporting Age UK with this community grant. As a home care company, we are all too aware of the importance that access social opportunities can play in helping older people to maintain their independence and live a full, active life.

Zoe, Care Manager

Applications for our next Community Grant awards will open on 1st August 2019 and any interested groups should submit their applications to Nathan Brown via email NathanBrown@bluebirdcare.co.uk
