We are pleased to announce that Tunbridge Wells based charity Good Neighbours has been awarded our £500 Community Grant to fund its annual tea party event for vulnerable older people.

Good Neighbours helps to address social isolation among the town's vulnerable older people. The charity runs an annual tea party to enable socially isolated individuals to get out and meet with other people, alongside 24 'befrienders', who dedicate their time to visiting these individuals to tackle loneliness among older generations.

The service currently supports 150 isolated individuals and aims to build up a network of ongoing support around them, to improve their overall quality of life.

The tea party enables those who use Good Neighbours' services to interact with others and enjoy an afternoon tea, with entertainment provided by children from St James Church of England Infant School. The next party will be hosted at Trinity Arts, a local art centre in Church Road, in 2018.

Jonathan Trumper, Good Neighbours' Project Director, said:
We would like to thank Bluebird Care for selecting the Good Neighbour Project for their community grant, as this will really help to fund our next tea party.

There are many local people who require the type of support we provide and we have seen some encouraging results since the project was launched. We've also made some lifelong friends along the way!
Nathan Brown, Community Liaison Manager, said:
Every time we offer a grant to projects, we get plenty of fantastic applications from many extremely worthwhile projects. The decision making process can be challenging so our team cast a vote on which project they'd like to receive the grant.

We are delighted to be supporting Good Neighbours with this grant. Working with elderly and vulnerable adults ourselves, the Bluebird Care Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells team are all very aware of the importance of helping to combat loneliness among older people. Schemes such as this go a long way in helping to tackle isolation.
