Bluebird Care Raises Money for Parkinson’s Awareness Week

29/04/2021

For Parkinson’s Awareness week, 11th-17th April, Bluebird Care Maidstone, partnered up with Parkinson Care and Support UK to raise funds to support their incredible work.

Bluebird Care Maidstone, asked their team members to run or walk 5km and donate £5 for the cause. This is known as the 5 for 5 challenge and the team have managed to raise an incredible, £325.

Parkinson’s is very close to all the team members’ hearts, as a number of their customers are living with the disease.

Donations made by the Bluebird Care team members will support Parkinson Care and Support UK to provide FREE exercise, respite care, neurological physiotherapy, information, advice, support groups and are developing a CBT Helpline to help people with Parkinson's with anxiety and depression.

Georgia Cooling, Marketing Manager at Bluebird Care Maidstone, said:

“It was lovely to see the team taking part in this challenge – everyone had a lot of fundraising money for Parkinson Care and Support UK. At Bluebird Care, we are so passionate about helping charities, and we hope to continue raising money for many more incredible causes!”

Elizabeth Gordon, Chief Executive at Parkinson’s Support, added:

“Parkinson’s Awareness Week is our annual opportunity to raise much needed funds and awareness of Parkinson’s. This year’s theme was Mental Health in, and Parkinson’s Care and Support UK launched the first ever Parkinson’s Mental Health Support Hub, exclusively for people affected by Parkinson’s. Up to 50% of people with Parkinson’s will suffer from anxiety or depression at some point of their illness.

“We are truly appreciative of the support from the Bluebird Care teams this month and would like to thank everyone involved in the 5 for 5 Challenge. The fundraising event brought together colleagues and friends and has been a success. We truly hope that their story will inspire others local businesses and community members to support us throughout the year.

“As well as the Parkinson’s Mental Health Support Hub, Parkinson's Care and Support UK provides a wide range of free services to improve life for people with Parkinson's and their carers, including: specialist exercise classes, home-based neurological physiotherapy, respite care for family carers, visiting care, information and support groups. But our work is dependent on donations.”
