Maidstone's Stroke Association is set to benefit from our October Community Grant of £500. The grant will be used to provide much-needed new materials for a number of support groups that the Stroke Association runs to help stroke survivors to rebuild their confidence.

With over 1.2 million stroke survivors in the UK and 100,000 strokes happening each year, stroke is the fourth single largest cause of death in the UK. Survivors can face serious and life-changing effects, including paralysis, speech and language difficulties, and depression.

The Stroke Association is the UK’s leading stroke charity dedicated to preventing stroke, and to supporting survivors to rebuild their lives. The Maidstone branch, which is based at Turkey Mill on Ashford Road, provides a range of support services for stroke survivors, including arts and games groups, to help re-build their confidence and independence.

Becky, Fundraising Manager at The Stroke Association, said:
We would like to thank Bluebird Care for this generous community grant, which will make a big difference to the services we provide to stroke survivors in Maidstone and the surrounding area.

Stroke survivors often need a great deal of support when rehabilitating after a devastating stroke. Many stroke survivors feel depressed and lack confidence.

Our groups enable stroke survivors to meet new friends and rediscover their communication skills in a safe, supportive environment, which helps to rebuild their confidence and independence after suffering a stroke.
Our Community Grant Scheme has been running for the past two years. The scheme supports local causes through the provision of a £500 grant to a different group three times a year.

Nathan, Community Liaison Manager at Bluebird Care Maidstone, said:
We are delighted to be supporting The Stroke Association with this grant.

As a home care company, we are all very aware of the devastating effects that a stroke can have on an individual and their family, and our Care Assistants support many customers who have suffered from the life-changing effects of a stroke.

The Stroke Association does a fantastic job in helping people to rebuild their lives’  after having a stroke.
