Exeter Dementia Action Alliance is organising a baton relay around Exeter to mark World Alzheimer’s Month.
The relay will take place on Sunday 11th September, with the baton bearing team setting off from the Guildhall at 9.30am and the handmade baton being carried 19 miles around parts of the Exeter Cosy Route, which circles the city and was created by the Alliance in September 2020.
Wider participation is invited from anyone with memories of loved ones with dementia as within the baton will be a digital memory stick, open to all to contribute memories for inclusion. These messages will be printed out and on display at the Guildhall on Saturday 24th September at the Alliance coffee morning 10am until 1pm.
If you would like to send a memory for inclusion in the baton, please follow this simple guide…
*Do include a first name if you wish of the person with dementia, but not a surname.
*Do include your association to them if you wish, such as daughter, son, wife, husband, friend, and give your first name if you wish, but again not a surname.
*Please include a connection to Exeter if you can as that would help localise the baton memories to the city.
*Choose your own heartfelt words that say something of the person or people you’re remembering, for example:
Remembering my precious, amazing Dad Bernard, an inspiration to me when you were well, an inspiration during the years you lived with dementia, including fond memories of your last months in Barton Place Nursing Home, and still an inspiration now, though you’re no longer with us. Love you and miss you always. Your Daughter Jo.
*If your association with dementia is in a professional capacity as a paid carer, care home or relevant organisation please do include that detail, and your message might be more generic about the many people you support.
