Handy Tips for Keeping Cool in a Heatwave

Most of us look forward to the warmer weather and feeling some sun on our faces but the Met Office - the UK's national weather service - has issued an amber warning for hot weather. Although the temperatures may not be as high as we've recently seen the length of the warm period is something to be aware of.
The UK's Health Security Agency have lots of advice on how to stay safe in the hot weather:
- stay cool indoors by closing curtains on rooms that face the sun – and remember that it may be cooler outdoors than indoors
- drink plenty of fluids and avoid excess alcohol
- try to keep out of the sun between 11 am to 3 pm, when the UV rays are strongest
- walk in the shade, apply sunscreen and wear a wide-brimmed hat, if you have to go out in the heat
- avoid physical exertion in the hottest parts of the day
- make sure you take water with you if you are travelling
