Chris Long is a long-term customer at Bluebird Care Exeter, and everyone in the team feels immensely privileged to know him. He is a force to be reckoned with.

Chris dislikes the term carer, so he refers to his Live-in care assistants as "housemates that help me out". For him, it means that the formal necessities are in place to support his needs but that each person in place "allows me to live the life I want".

For Chris, the match service that Bluebird Care NEW Devon offer is fantastic as it makes sure that the people who support him have similar interests. He's a dedicated bibliophile, music fan, and film buff, so that's always a good place to start. He also likes to write and regularly gets out of the house to enjoy the fresh air, especially at Exeter Quayside.

Recently, he completed a marathon for Hospicare and during the lockdown, he managed to write and self-publish two books!

One for children, Barry the Medical Cat, where an unexpected visitor causes panic amongst the doctors and nurses, they soon realise that he is just a member of the team.

Chris says he was sitting one day when the whole story came to mind. Chris dictated the tale into an app, and then he had help from others with editing via a home computer.

One of the Bluebird Care staff members had a granddaughter who helped by providing some fantastic illustrations for the lovely, heartwarming book.

Additionally, While The World Was On Pause, is an anthology comprising a poem and nine short stories. Chris hopes that the stories provide the reader with an antidote from reality and offer a positive view in strange times.

Mariya, one of Chris's 'housemates that help' says:

I think Chris has a unique voice, the topics he has chosen to write about have been big issues, sort of, humanity in crisis questions, but Chris positively approached them… I think that's Chris' gift; he has a lot of positivity to offer.

He certainly does and we are delighted that Chris has chosen us to support him.
