At Bluebird Care, we are passionate about supporting our customers, which is why we continually strive to improve the services that we offer.

Meet our Dementia Champion, Sylvie...

As part of our initiative to offer consistently outstanding care to each and every one of our lovely customers, last year we introduced our very first Dementia Champion, Sylvie.

Sylvie, who is one of our valued Care Assistants, trained to be a Dementia Friends Champion to enhance her knowledge of caring for people living with dementia.

Dementia Friends Champions are a team of volunteers up and down the UK who encourage others to make a positive difference to people living within dementia within their community. By providing information about the impact dementia has on a number of areas of a person’s life, from their health and wellbeing to their socialisation, and what can be done to help make life that little bit easier and more enjoyable.

Dementia Friends Champions like Sylvie, attend a specialist induction where they undergo training and are given information and advice. Once their induction is complete, they then have access to support as and when they need it, to help make creating dementia-friendly communities easier.

A team of our Bluebirds have become Dementia Friends

A Dementia Friends training session was held at the Bluebird Care Exeter hub last week, where Sylvie trained a number of our Care Assistants to become Dementia Friends.

Under the Exeter Dementia Action Alliance, Exeter is working to become a more dementia-friendly city, and Dementia Friends are a crucial element of that. An Alzheimer’s Society initiative, Dementia Friends aims to transform the way the country thinks, acts and talks about dementia and the people living with it.

The session was held in our training room at the Exeter hub, with Sylvie delivering training through a powerpoint presentation, along with delivering some hands-on training.

Dementia Friends was set up to help change people’s perceptions about dementia and create more dementia-friendly communities for the people living with this condition.

At Bluebird Care, we are proud to be able to offer a team of Care Assistants who are dementia friends, and can offer specialised dementia support.
