Bluebird Care backs Autism Awareness Week

Bluebird Care Croydon is supporting Autism Awareness Week this year, a nation-wide campaign run by the National Autistic Society from 27th March - 2th April.

The week is centred around the internationally recognised Autism Awareness Day which takes place on the 2nd April and encourages people to take part in a full 7 days of activities to help raise funds and awareness for the National Autistic Society.

The Light It Up Blue campaign encourages people to wear blue on the 2nd of April in support of understanding and acceptance for people with autism.

There are around 700,000 people in the UK who are on the autism spectrum – that’s 1 in 100 people. If you include families too, it affects over 2.8 million people across the country. It is a ‘hidden’ disability, meaning that you cannot always tell if someone is autistic. Autism is incurable but getting the right support can make a big difference to people’s lives.

The National Autistic Society is the UK’s largest provider of specialist autism services and supports over 100,000 people every year through a network of dedicated staff and volunteers.

Dean Slade, Director of Bluebird Care Croydon, said:

“There are many ways to fundraise and bring about awareness of autism in the local community. These could include an online quiz, wearing something blue, starting a Facebook fundraiser or going for a run in your local park. Let’s work together and help transform the lives of the members of our area live with autism.

We hope to raise awareness of the condition across Croydon and improve the support that those living with autism receive.”
