Two local organisations in Bicester have teamed up to provide support for families and individuals who are facing terminal cancer, and who need palliative care and End of Life support.

The Hummingbird Centre and Bluebird Care Cherwell & North Bucks have joined forces to work in a collaborative way to support the people of Bicester and surrounding villages affected by cancer – ensuring that no one has to face it alone!

Founder of the Hummingbird Centre, Mechelle Harris said:

“We believe that nobody should feel alone, and we help people to find out more about cancer as well as explore complementary therapies to support their lifestyle changes.

Not far from central Bicester, in a rural and calm setting that is easy to get to, The Hummingbird Centre is a relaxed place for cancer patients, whatever stage throughout the cancer journey. We also want to encourage those who have survived the journey but feel they cannot express how they feel about surviving, which can also be a difficult emotion to have to cope with.

One in three of us will be affected by cancer, and so many of us need plenty of support and care to help us cope and live well.

The Hummingbird Centre is a great place to meet people, get information, talk to our team, be pampered and have fun. We have created a space for visitors to relax, and talk to people who can help and support them practically and emotionally.”

Homecare specialists Bluebird Care Cherwell & North Bucks are bringing their professional skills in providing support to The Hummingbird Centre's guests who may need that little bit of extra support when caring for someone who is terminally ill and looking for a respite.

Bluebird Care Managing Director Suzzanne Elgar added:

“The most worrying time for any family affected by cancer is having uncertainty about the future. By working with the centre, we hope to diminish these worries from the start by creating a professional, safe and secure working relationship.

We’re providing a professional assessment of the guests’ needs and providing the appropriate support to enable the families to work with The Hummingbird Centre knowing that their loved one is safe at home.

We want to ensure that those caring for someone with cancer have a bit of respite support, so we’ll send our team along to help as and when we can.”
