Bluebird Care is excited to join the Training 2 CARE initiative and support the revolutionary 'Dementia Bus', a mobile dementia simulator.

This groundbreaking resource brings essential learning to those around the world who want to support those living with dementia. As a leader in community care services, Bluebird Care is proud to contribute to the sustainability of this invaluable project; providing both funds and resources for its users. We understand that generating awareness about dementia can allow for greater understanding, acceptance and active engagement when caring for family and those living with dementia or Alzheimer's disease. We look forward to seeing the great effect this program will have on communities and families who live in care, everywhere..

During Dementia Action Week (16th May) a unique simulation vehicle will be launching in the UK. It has been expertly crafted and is state-of-the art, giving users an immersive experience that reveals what it's like to interact with dementia. This addition joins a special fleet of dedicated vehicles whose aim is to provide increased understanding of this condition and associated realities. By testing out the immersive simulation first hand, those touched in some way by dementia can gain an insight unavailable any other time or place – bringing them closer to understanding the emotions of sufferers from all walks of life.

Visitors can expect a unique experience that replicates different symptoms and challenges associated with this condition - all from the safe environment of the bus.

Participating in these simulations is particularly helpful and valuable for caregivers of elderly people living with dementia. It offers them a fascinating insight into the potential consequences their decisions would have, so they can make the most well-informed choices when adjusting to care settings and practices. This allows a much higher quality of life for carers of these individuals than may otherwise have been possible, bringing hope to those affected by this incurable condition.

Each year, roughly 200,000 individuals embark on an extraordinary training venture. Patrons of the program will gain firsthand knowledge of the full range of physical and cognitive effects generated from dementia. Studies have found that immersive dementia experimentations for adults can produce authentic results, similar to what those with a diagnosed condition might experience. Participants will discover new insights about life within this population and develop fun activities and suitable strategies to cultivate meaningful personal relationships. Thus, joining this educational scheme allows participants to observe the comprehensive set of disorders experienced by people with dementia.

Participants of this challenge encountered impairments in their vision; from mittens made from thick material, altered glasses and headphones. This backdrop of impediments created an atmosphere of heightened frustration for competitors, who had to make their way through dimly lit rooms filled with colored lights. Dysfunction was further convinced by the upmost relevance of keen navigation skills and quick stamina in order to beat other participants on the same level. Ultimately, each obstacle came down to the capability of a person in sight defense and control, essential visual acuity for victory.

The ultimate realism comes in the form of spiked insoles placed within shoes – allowing participants feel pins-and-needles sensation just like someone living through this life changing condition would have experienced it.

This comprehensive simulation has been commissioned by an impressive selection of organizations including NHS Trusts, police forces, universities as well as CQC for those interested in gaining new insight into understanding Dementia.

Dean Martin, Head of Marketing at Bluebird Care, explained:

Training 2 Care’s innovative ‘dementia bus’ gives people the opportunity to experience first-hand the frustrations and challenges people with dementia experience on a daily basis . As well as increasing awareness and improving perspectives on ageing, the training is invaluable for care workers, health professionals and anyone who knows or cares for a person with dementia.
