Level 2 heatwave warning from the Met office and Public Health England for the period 00:00 Friday 17th to 00:00 Sunday 19th June.

Most of us welcome hot weather, but when it's too hot for too long, there are health risks. In England, there are on average 2000 heat related deaths every year. When hot weather hits, make sure it does not harm you or anyone you know.

Heatwave advice

Why is a heatwave a problem?

The main risks associated with heatwaves are:

  • Dehydration due to not drinking enough water
  • Overheating

Some Guidance to help our customers cope with hot weather

Look out for those customers who may struggle to keep themselves cool and hydrated. If you have any concerns about an uncomfortably hot house or you feel that a customer may be suffering from Heat exhaustion, then please contact the office or on call for support and advice.Check for the signs of heat exhaustion

  • Headache
  • Dizziness and confusion
  • Loss of appetite and feeling sick
  • Cramps in the arms, legs, and stomach
  • Excessive sweating and pale, clammy skin
  • Fast breathing or pulse
  • Being very thirsty

With a customer’s consent

  •  close those curtains in rooms that face the sun to keep indoor space
  •  make sure that the central heating is switched off
  •  open windows where it is safe and secure to do so

Finally, hot weather not only affects our customers but also our care staff so please be vigilante about your own wellbeing and safety – please make sure you have plenty of water available whilst working and avoid overheating.
