Bluebird Care Tonbridge & Tunbridge Wells is pleased to announce that Hospice in the Weald has been awarded the first ever Bluebird Care community grant.

The grant of £500 was presented on 17th May and will go towards the refurbishment of the bedrooms on the Hospice In-Patient Unit. Each of 15 single occupancy rooms are light and spacious, but in need of modernisation and redecoration including the en-suite shower rooms.

Hospice in the Weald, which is based in Pembury, provides skilled, high quality care for those facing the challenge of a terminal illness, and support for their families. The majority of the funds which support the running of the hospice are raised through the generosity of the local community.

About the Bluebird Care Community Grant, Claire Stanley, Bluebird Care (Tonbridge & Tunbridge Wells) Care Manager explained that:

‘Hospice in the Weald is close to the hearts of our customers and staff and although there were a number of other very worthy charities who applied, the Hospice’s application received the highest number of nominations.

Our Community Grant Scheme is a positive way for us to support and recognise the great work of our local charities and I am delighted to be able to have a part to play in reviewing the applications we receive’.

Beth Swarbrigg, Fundraising Director at Hospice in the Weald said:

‘As part of our mission to provide, compassionate, individualised, holistic and supportive Hospice Care to patients, their families, and carers the atmosphere created in our In-Patient Unit is incredibly important to us.

The Hospice is delighted to have been granted such a generous amount from the inaugural Bluebird Care Community Grant which will help us ensure the refurbishment work to patient rooms can be completed as soon as possible.’

Nominations are open for the next Community Grant, being awarded in July and a form can be downloaded here.
