Fish & Chips With Christine

As part of our commitment to always going the extra mile for our customers, we recently visited Christine in Dartford for lunch.   Christine lives in the house she has resided in for over 33 years. She was diagnosed with polio at six weeks old and, following one day where she found herself unable to get back to her chair, arranged for Bluebird Care to visit and support her.

Christine is unable to use her legs which means that she is chair bound for a large part of the day. Her house has been specially adapted in order that she can remain at home and the support we provide enables her to remain as independent as possible.

Christine’s condition makes it hard for her to get out of the house and because of this, we thought it would be good to bring lunch to her.

Care Supervisor, Sam, who knows Christine well therefore headed out to the local fish and chip shop and enjoyed spending some time with Christine.

Christine explained how she has lived in Dartford for all of her life and recalls regular trips to and from Great Ormand Street Hospital during the war as they tried not to keep people as inpatients due to the bombs.

She also explained how she used to work as secretary to the boss of the Dartford Tunnel for 15 years. She explained how it was great fun working in a very male dominated environment!

Christine commented:
I am a very positive and determined as a person and it was a challenge coming to terms with needing to have help with aspects of my care. However, it is encouraging that I can stay at home and Bluebird Care do a great job supporting me!
Sam explained:
Christine is a fantastic person and very positive character. She has had a lot of challenges throughout her life, however despite these she continues to look on the bright side and enjoy herself.

I had an excellent time visiting and spending time with Christine along with enjoying some wonderful fish and chips.
