Bernadette & Hugo Mills
Since 2012, Bernadette and Hugo’s Bluebird Care franchises have been delivering home care to enable customers to remain in the comfort and familiarity of their own home. Delivering the highest quality of home care and assistance is their absolute goal and the team would be delighted to hear from anyone who is seeking support, from short daily visits to 24-hr care, for themselves or for a loved one, or who would simply like to talk to someone about the services we provide.
Bernadette and Hugo Mills live in the New Forest with their 3 children and Pete the dog. Having previously worked in finance in London, the couple took the lifestyle decision to live and work locally. Once the children were old enough, Bernadette began to look for a business they could run which would give them family flexibility but also a bit of a challenge. They were also very aware of the growing local (and national) demand for care at home. Starting their first Bluebird Care franchise in the New Forest in 2012 certainly didn’t disappoint!
Driven by a passion to deliver high-quality care, they subsequently opened offices in Southampton (2015), Totton (2016), and, in 2017, took over the Portsmouth franchise too. Yet it is not their intention to build the biggest care business, but rather to deliver the best service on a local level through staff who genuinely care. A key focus is establishing a joint partnership between all the teams in order to provide outstanding daily home care and live-in care.
Bernadette and Hugo are particularly enthusiastic about supporting the local communities in which they now operate. Taking part in community and charity activities is very important to them, and they are as ‘hands-on’ in appearing at local events as they are in ensuring their businesses deliver care of the highest standard. You may well have seen one or both of them on the back of a carnival float, dangling from a zip wire over Portsmouth harbour, running an inflatable obstacle course or serving tea and cake in a church hall.
Registered Care Manager
Sophie was keen to find a company that shared the values she herself stands for; compassion, looking after staff and working to provide excellent customer service. She was thrilled when she came across Bluebird Care Portsmouth. Sharing these beliefs and values, Bluebird Care provides bespoke care and ensures customers needs are the number one priority.
Having been in the care industry for more than 10 years, by working in residential homes, in the community and also supporting children, Sophie has finally found her career path. She feels very much at home in domiciliary care, as well as being part of a devoted company and a passionate care team.
Sophie has recently been promoted into the role of Registered Care Manager within Bluebird Care Portsmouth and is studying for her Level 5 in Health and Social Care!
In her spare time, Sophie enjoys spending time with her young family as well as running and challenging herself, completing courses like Tough Mudder and The Great South Run. We are sure that if you put any challenge in front of Sophie, she would gladly accept and conquer.
As a coordinator, Teri is responsible for the customer care schedules and the rosters. If customers have any special requests regarding the care schedule or rosters, please email portsmouth@bluebird care.co.uk, and Teri will be happy to accommodate your wishes.
Teri has completed her level 3 NVQ in Health and Social Care.
When Teri is not working in the Portsmouth office, Teri is training for running challenges and always pushes herself to aim for an end goal. Teri also spends her time supporting family members in different parts of the country, always putting others before herself which is why she is such a fantastic coordinator - a people pleaser!
Deputy Manager/Recruitment and Retention Officer
Barbara has been in care for 16 years, working in both residential and domicilliary settings. Barbara is predominantly responsible for the recruitment of our care team. She has a fantastic eye for quality care assistants and is so passionate about employing the most compassionate, reliable and caring staff members to deliver outstanding care to our customers. She has great relationships with the care team and it is her motivation to see a happy care team with smiles on their faces!
Barbara is also our in-house trainer, upskilling our team with their regular refresher sessions as well as training new staff before they begin their Bluebird Care journey!
Barbara is passionate about oustanding care delivery to our customers and loves to keep her hand in out in the field, touching base with our customers and ensuring they are well supported at all times.
