Local homecare provider Bluebird Care Merton is supporting the SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands campaign. May 5th marks the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) annual campaign which aims to emphasise the importance of hand hygiene in health care and to globally improve hand hygiene.
This year’s slogan is “Seconds save lives – clean your hands”.
Hand hygiene has gained increased focus due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. The WHO says that everyone can play an important role in preventing COVID-19 by washing their hands.
COVID-19 is spread through droplet and contact transmission. This means that the virus can spread by touching contaminated surfaces or infectious persons and then touching other objects, persons or your own eyes, mouth and nose.
Hand washing with soap and water or using an alcohol-based hand rub is so vital to help prevent the spread of viruses including COVID-19.
Jay Patel, Director of Bluebird Care Merton, commented:
“It is very important to wash your hands, especially during the coronavirus outbreak.
Studies by the World Health Organisation have shown that handwashing removes germs and destroys viruses.
You can save lives simply by cleaning your hands!”
