My Care Journey - Sue Brown

Published: 19/08/2022

There are plenty of chances for career progression here at Bluebird Care - where you can steer your care career in the direction you want. Next up in our "My Care Journey" feature is Sue Brown!

We sat down with our Training & Development Manager, Sue Brown - who told us her care journey so far.

I started care in 2002, working nights in a residential home after my son was born, due to his complex health needs I needed to work around his care.

As he got older and his health settled down, I transitioned to a domiciliary care worker for another company, where I worked until I had my daughter in 2009, I worked part time after this.

Again, once she got older I decided a change was needed, I loved my care job but wanted more, to progress.

I applied to Bluebird Care Tendring in 2013 to work as a supervisor, it was decided at this time that I did not meet all the requirements for the role so they created a role for me, Senior Carer.

It was whilst working in this role that Krissy said she made the wrong decision, and I was promoted to supervisor shortly after.

When Colchester and Tendring merged I was promoted to Lead Supervisor, and completed my Level 5 in Leadership and Management.

During my time as Lead Supervisor I worked really closely with Julie Mayhew the trainer, and developed an interest in delivering training. Julie had to retire due to family constraints, and spoke with Krissy who offered me the job as Training and Development Manager.

The rest they say is history 😊
