The only thing we love more than the summer sunshine is sharing it with our customers! These are some of our favourite days out near Bournemouth and Poole.

Here at Bluebird Care Bournemouth and Poole the only thing we love more than the summer sunshine is sharing it with our customers!

Luckily there are a ton of fun days out near Bournemouth and Poole to pick from. These are just some of our Carers’ favourite summer days out with customers. If you have an elderly friend or relative who’d like to get out in the sunshine, we couldn’t recommend any of these more highly!

“I recently took one of my customers to Moors Valley Country Park,” says Bluebird Care Assistant Alexia. “It was a very nice day and we both really enjoyed it!

“There are a lot of things to do there for people of all ages,” she explains. For instance, they have a steam train that you can go on or look at. There are always lots of kids around so it’s a very happy place.

“When we were there I took my customer to the forest to the forest trail, where you are walking high above in the trees. It’s very peaceful and he oved being there. I was glad to share it with him! It’s also very safe and I would have no problem taking another customer in future if they wanted to go, it’s definitely one of my favourite days out Bournemouth and Poole.”

“Another place it is good to take older people is a garden centre,” says Bluebird Care deputy manager Betty. “I know one care assistant who took a customer to Stewarts Garden Centre in Christchurch. They visited the café, had a slice of cake and looked at the flowers.

“You can also see the fish there swimming around. It’s very relaxing. Stewarts is an especially nice one but there are many in the area. So if you have an elderly relative or loved one who you think would enjoy a day out in the sun, that’s always a great idea!”

Haven Hotel

“There is one lady who I look after who tells me where she wants to go,” says Care Assistant Krisztina.” She jokes that she is taking me out!”

Last time we went to a Haven Hotel on Sandbanks. We had a nice cup of tea and some cakes and all sorts. From there you can see the ferry and the sea – the view is beautiful.

“My customer had wanted to show me that place for so long and either the weather was never right or it wasn’t me doing her care visits. But finally, it all aligned. The only thing that could have been better was that I wished I was in shorts and T-shirt to fully enjoy the weather!” Krisztina says with a smile. "As days out near Bournemouth go, I’d highly recommend it!”

Local parks

“I have another customer who is paralysed from the waist down,” says Krisztina. She’s got a lovely dog and we sometimes go to White Cliff Park in Poole. There the dog can go in the sea; you can see the boats. Many dog walkers go there. It’s a lovely place for a relaxing stroll with a customer.

“There is another lady who was interested in days out in Poole, so we went to Poole Park. She is 90 and she actually walked around the whole park. At 90 years old, she is just amazing! She asks me “Others can’t do that?” and I tell her that many 70-year-olds cannot walk that far. I tell her ‘if we stopped people and asked them how old they think you are, they wouldn’t say 90!’"

Tuckton and Southbourne Cliffs

Tuckton is always nice,” says Bluebird Care Bournemouth & Poole care assistant Karen. It’s a lovely little spot just between Bournemouth and Christchurch. There are a few shops and some cafes, and if you go just across the road from there you can go down by the river where they have a tea room.

“I take one of my customers there, he loves it! We do a bit of shopping and then go for a bit of lunch, then we just sit on a bench and have a lovely chat; watching the boats go past.

“Sometimes I take him near Southbourne cliffs, too,” continues Karen. “We find somewhere nice to sit and just watch the world go by. As lovely little days out near Bournemouth go, you really can’t beat it.”
