A Dementia Friends Champion is a volunteer who encourages others to make a positive difference to people living with dementia in their community. They do this by giving them information about the personal impact of dementia, and what they can do to help. This allows them to help people understand what it’s like to live with dementia and the actions they can take in their communities. This could be anything from recognising someone is disorientated on the bus and taking a bit of time out to help them to being actively involved within the community.

Julie has always been committed to improving the quality of life for people living with dementia and she demonstrates this on a daily basis with our customer’s and staff. This is why she is doing such a fantastic job for our customers. As with all the management team, she’s always had a passion for dementia services, and this goes back over her 30 years in the health and social care industry. Even her university degree focussed on the effect for both the person living with dementia and their families. She now wishes to conduct information sessions for over 100 people in the next year. If each person takes away a bit more compassion for people living with dementia the knock on effect will be very positive within our community. Well done Julie!
