The face behind the blog.

So, let me start by introducing myself.

Hey, I’m Kim or Kimberley, if you ask my mother. I’m 30, a huge ice hockey and basketball fan supporting both English and American teams, married and a mother to my two amazing boys. I’ve recently returned to Bluebird Care following the birth of my youngest in June 2024.

My journey with Bluebird started back in May 2019 when I came on board as a part-time office administrator; in October 2019, I went on maternity leave with my eldest and later returned to work during the Covid-19 Pandemic in August 2020, coming back to a full-time office administrator role, in September 2021 I moved into promotion as a recruitment officer, a role I thoroughly enjoyed. In November 2023 I returned to work after the birth of my youngest son into a recruitment and customer service role. Working alongside our head of marketing to assist with marketing, care enquiries and recruitment. A role I’m thoroughly enjoying, and I can’t wait to see how this role develops further in the future.

I was first introduced to the care sector at the age of 10 when my late father had McMillan nurses to support my mother at home through his illness when battling a brain tumour. Seeing the incredible work these carers did daily made me want to help others in the same way.

I’ve worked on and off in the care industry since I was 18 years old. Working around my college life training in the hair and beauty industry. I’ve worked as a hairdresser but always found my way back to the care sector. I’ve worked in homecare, a care home, with adults with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour and also working as a live-in Carer for my grandparents when they were ill.

During this time, I took a break from the care sector to focus on my studies. I started working in my local pub behind the bar; this was something I enjoyed, socialising with the regulars that came in. This helped to develop my social skills, which I’m sure you can ask anyone who knows me. Knows that I am a social butterfly and will chat to and with anyone about pretty much anything.

Working in the care sector, I did everything from personal care, medications, meal preparations, domestic skills and end-of-life care. This was something I enjoyed as I was able to support the customer and their family through such a hard time in their life. Being in the care sector, I was able to build relationships with the customers, gain their trust and work to be able to offer personalised and individual care to each customer,

The knowledge and skills I have gained working in different sectors of the care industry have really helped me develop as a person. I’ve learned to be adaptable and to think on my feet, which means I can handle any situation that comes my way. This has helped me not just in my work life but also in my home life. This means I can juggle being a mother of two and working full time to provide for my family and teach my boys that working hard and being passionate about what you do can open many doors and give you many opportunities.

I’m grateful for my time working hands-on in the care sector and being able to help so many customers and their families through all the happy and sad times, as I feel this has truly shaped me into the person I am. I’m looking forward to where my journey at Bluebird will take me, as I feel the opportunities are endless.

I hope you’ll join me as we navigate our way through the home care sector and hopefully be able to guide you and show you things you didn’t think were possible, not only for myself and our customers but also for our office and care teams.

So buckle in, and I’ll see you next time 😊
