Bluebird Care Hammersmith & Fulham is supporting Young Carers' Awareness Day 2020.

Bluebird Care Hammersmith & Fulham is supporting this year’s Young Carers' Awareness Day on 30th January which is organised by the Carers Trust.

Young Carers' Awareness Day intends to identify and raise awareness of the important role of young carers, who are under the age of 18 and provide care to a family member who is physically or mentally sick, disabled or suffering from addiction. This year’s theme focuses on mental health.

The Carers Trust is a UK organisation formed in 2011, with the aim of offering emotional and practical support to carers. The Trust also helps carers by providing access to education and employment, organising group support and social activities to help carers to share experiences and by offering advice and information.

Soheila Amin, Director of Bluebird Care Hammersmith & Fulham, said:

“We are supporting Young Carers’ Awareness Day and we are encouraging our local community to acknowledge and support these young people and their families.

According to a recent census, there is around 10,000 young unpaid carers in the UK, some as young as five years old. Many of these children care round the clock, day-in day-out forgoing their own sleep, needs and missing out on their childhood.

More needs to be done to support these young people. Raising awareness and understanding could make a huge difference to young carers and their families’ lives and Bluebird Care is one hundred percent behind the campaign.”
