Bluebird Care Hammersmith & Fulham is supporting Irritable Bowel Syndrome awareness month this April.Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a chronic disorder estimated to affect between 10% and 20% of the general population.
Symptoms may include constipation, diarrhoea, bloating and stomach cramps. IBS most often occurs in people aged between 20 and 30 years and is twice as common in women as in men. However, recent trends indicate that there is a significant prevalence in older people also.
There is not a single diet or medicine that works for everyone with IBS but there are many things which can be done to help if you are diagnosed.
Dos:
- Use fresh ingredients in cooking as much as possible
- Get plenty of exercise
- Try probiotics
- Delay or skip meals
- Eat too quickly
- Drink more than 3 cups of tea or coffee a day
“IBS can be incredibly uncomfortable and cause a lot of problems in everyday life. Initiatives like this are brilliant to help raise awareness and get people to report symptoms to their GP.
One major route for prevention of symptoms is to ensure meals are fresh and eaten in a relaxed manner.
As a care provider we pride ourselves on the excellent quality of our services. When we’re asked to help with meal preparation, we always endeavour to match meals for our clients’ individual needs and tastes, and the lovely company of our staff make very relaxed meal times.”
