6 September 2017 … A South Bucks customer care manager said ‘a career in care is one of the most rewarding opportunities’ as she was awarded Team Member of the Year in a nationwide competition.

Katy Cresswell was named Team Member of the Year by an independent panel of judges at Bluebird Care’s 2017 Annual Awards ceremony this week.  She received her award at a special ceremony at Fortnum & Mason in London.

Katy was one of just six finalists who appeared in front of the judging panel, picked from dozens of entries from more than 180 Bluebird Care offices across the UK.

The judges included Mike Padgham, Chairman of the United Kingdom Homecare Association; Colin Angel, Policy Director of the United Kingdom Homecare Association; and David Brindle, Public Services Editor at The Guardian.

Judge Mike Padgham said of Katy:

“It was extremely difficult to pick the winner of the Team Member of the Year but Katy personified everything that is good about homecare in this country. She demonstrated a dedication to her team that is second to none and is a superb role model to her colleagues. She also showed great leadership in sharing her innovation in social media to help with the challenging issue of staff recruitment and retention. Above all, everything she showed was about making the service better and adding special little touches to the lives of those Bluebird Care cares for. In my book she would be a very welcome addition to any team and that is why Katy is Team Member of the Year for 2017.”

Commenting on her win, Katy said: “It felt amazing to be recognised for all the hard work myself and my team have done.  Without the support of my colleagues I wouldn’t have achieved all that I have over the last few years.”

“Working for Bluebird Care has given me the opportunity to fulfil my life’s ambition of being able to help people and really make a difference to them and their families.  A career in care is one of the most rewarding opportunities I have had and I would encourage anyone to consider this career path.”

Katy was noted by her employers as having “outstanding leadership” and “demonstrating an exceptional, unrelenting positive attitude”.

The Bluebird Care Awards winners were recognised for the outstanding, and often extraordinary, contribution that they have made over the past year in improving the lives of Bluebird Care customers.

Other winners included Valerie Holland, from Bluebird Care’s Eastbourne franchise, who won Registered Manager of the Year and Joyce Morton, from North East Lincolnshire, who won Carer of the Year.

The national winners were chosen from 18 regional finalists who had been picked at an earlier stage from the 19,000 Bluebird Care staff across the UK.
