Trip Down Memory Lane: Bluebird Care Birmingham East and North Launch New Project

Bluebird Care Birmingham East and North have launched an exciting new project for its service users, by offering them a trip down memory lane.

A Memory Lane, produced in a keepsake booklet, combines images, saved items or memorabilia with a short story to accompany each memory. The stories are told from the perspective of the loved one of whom the book is for, or from an observer’s point of view: be it spouse, sibling, child, family, or friend. The Memory Lane differs to that of a normal photo album, in that it combines images and saved items or memorabilia with a short story to bring that memory to life.

Bluebird Care allocates one staff member to a customer to produce the Memory Lane, in what is a reoccurring theme for the home care provider to offer a unique, personalised touch to each customer.

The debut Memory Lane book has been produced for a 99-year-old Bluebird Care Service user, to be issued to her complete with all her memories.

Bluebird Care Birmingham East and North have deployed the Memory Lane project as part of the ‘Beating Isolation’ roll out, whereby activities and groups have been implemented to tackle the difficulties their service users commonly face.

Sue Manickam, Director of Bluebird Care Birmingham East & North, commented: “Memory Lane is very close to everybody in the office. It brings out the untold story of our customers, and it's inception will bring our staff members closer to those service users.

The bond between carer and customer is vitally important. The Memory Lane project allows the two sides of that relationship to understand one another better. We hope that translates to a better bond, and a higher level of service offered to our customer. Not only that, but the book itself is also great. It looks aesthetically pleasing and will be a hit for our users and their families.”
