What is Live In Care?

‘Live In Care’ is a type of home care service whereby a care worker lives in your home with you, to offer you assistance with your day-to-day needs. It means that you are supported by one or more fully trained care workers without moving to another home or relinquishing your independence.

Live In care services are individual and personalised to your specific needs, routines and preferences. This means that live in care can look however you need it to. You can live the lifestyle you always have, while receiving assistance, care and support from a private live in carer.

We provide live in care services for all ages, including elder live in care.

Live-in care services can include:

  • Assistance with bathing, toileting, and dressing
  • Meal preparation
  • Housework, like laundry and general cleaning
  • Daily companionship
  • Overnight or specialist care (including catheter care, stoma care and PEG feeding)
  • Accompaniment to appointments, social activities and outings

And much more!

The Benefits of Live In Care

  1. You can stay in your own home

When you receive live-in care, high-quality, fully-trained care workers are brought right to your doorstep. One or more care workers will live with you and care for you as and when you need them, eliminating the need to leave or sell your family home.

  1. Staying local

Receiving live-in care in your own home means not having to leave your partner, your pet, your local community, or your family and friends. You can continue to shop, socialise, and live life to the full in places that are familiar to you.

  1. Personalised services

Our live-in care services are tailored to meet your individual care requirements and wishes. Your unique needs are considered throughout the assessment process and a personalised care package is created to provide the exact care you need.

  1. Exceptional care workers and care experts

All of our care workers are fully trained and committed to giving you high-quality care. They are compassionate and respect your home, privacy and personal boundaries.

  1. Flexibility

Live-in care offers more flexibility than care visits, as your care worker is with you all day and/or night, so you don’t need to have a rigid schedule. Your care worker works with your individual preferences and can follow whatever daily schedule best suits your lifestyle.

  1. Wide range of support and care

Your live-in care worker can assist you with a range of daily tasks and activities from personal care to housework to social activities, including appointments and outings. It’s all your choice!

  1. Maintaining independence

Live-in care allows you to continue your current lifestyle, all with the assistance of a care worker who is by your side every step of the way. This encourages you to keep living independently, but with the support you need.

Live In Care Might be Right for you

Live In care may be a great option for you if you require a lot of care, have frequent care needs, or need companionship and social support. It can be an ongoing arrangement or may only be required for a short time if you are recovering from an illness or hospital visit, or for carer respite purposes. We offer live-in care to anyone who has care and support needs but does not want to leave the comfort of their own home.

What is the Process for Receiving Live In Care?

The live-in care process begins with an assessment from one of our trained assessors. They will visit you in your home at a time of your choosing to meet with you and any family, friends, or advocates you would like to be there. The assessment will determine what your support needs are and what outcomes you are seeking. It will look at all aspects of your life, including history, family and friends, your home environment, the specific tasks you need support for and how you want to be supported in these tasks.

Your assessor will work with you to develop a personalised care plan that meets the needs identified in your assessment. This assessment is free of charge and does not oblige you to arrange care with us.

When you initially start live-in care, you and your assessor may identify changes that need to be made to your plan. This is a normal part of settling in with a new carer. You and your assessor will discuss and make these changes together as necessary.

Once you and your carer have settled into your care plan, you will still have regular contact with your assessor to review your care and make sure you are happy with your service.

FAQs

Do I choose a live in care worker, or is one assigned to me?

At Bluebird Care, our trained assessors go through an assessment process to match you with the right care expert. Our assessors will visit your home and spend time with you, getting to know you and learning about your hobbies and interests. This process allows our assessors to match you with the best care worker for you and your lifestyle.

What checks and training do live in care workers require?

Our care services are fully regulated by  our regulators,  the Care Quality Commission (CQC). All of our care workers are thoroughly checked and screened to ensure that they are safe and ready to work with you. They are also fully trained by us to support you and your live-in care needs.

What happens if my live in care workers need time off?

Despite your care workers living with you in your home, they are only considered to be actively working for around 10 hours each day and are entitled to regular daily and weekly breaks.

Each person’s care needs are individual, which is why our care packages are bespoke to the wishes and needs of the person receiving the care. If you continue to require care when your live-in care worker has breaks, then this will be considered during the assessment process. Relevant arrangements will be made to ensure you get the support and care that you need for all the hours of the day and days of the year that you need it.

Is live in care covered by the UK Social Care system?

Funding and payment for live-in care is dependent on your individual circumstances. Your contributions will be determined by your income and savings. If your needs assessment has recommended live-in care, then you may be eligible for council funding to help with the cost of live-in care services. This will be delivered through a care and support plan.
