Overnight Care Bournemouth and Poole

Bluebird Care provide overnight care including waking night care and sleeping night care. Sleep soundly, knowing quality care is close by.

What is Overnight Care?

The wee hours often feel like the longest, particularly if you’re worried about being on your own and needing support. Getting proper sleep is essential for your health and well-being, which is why overnight care could be the solution that helps you sleep soundly.

Night care also offers your caregivers the chance to get some rest with the knowledge that you’re being well looked after. Feel confident that you’re being cared for and supported, no matter your needs, even when the rest of the world is sleeping.

What Does Overnight Care Include?

We offer two kinds of night care at Bluebird Care Bournemouth and Poole:

Sleeping Night

This is when a care assistant sleeps at your home (for a minimum of eight hours) so that they’re on hand if needed. This option is suitable for those who don’t need regular support but who may feel uncomfortable when left alone overnight. Those suffering from anxiety and sleep deprivation often find themselves sleeping peacefully after only a few visits.

Waking Night

This is when a care assistant is on duty at your home throughout the night (for a minimum of eight hours). This option is best suited for those who wake frequently (perhaps being disorientated or needing to go to the bathroom), who need to wake at regular intervals to change position due to injury, or who need to take medication throughout the night.

What Are the Benefits of Night Care?

Overnight care offers several benefits that are simply not available with other types of care.

  • It allows you to remain in the comfort of your own home
  • It ensures you’re provided with support, either for a condition or with mobility
  • It provides constant reassurance that you’re in safe hands in case of an emergency
  • It offers friendly companionship (ideal for those who struggle to sleep)
  • It provides your loved ones with peace of mind that someone is on hand at all times

Traditionally, if you required overnight support you would have moved into a residential facility. Not only was this a blow to your independence – especially if you don’t need much support during the day – it often made it more difficult for family and friends to visit.

Frequently Asked Questions About Overnight Care

What should I expect from a care worker?

For waking nights, your carer will typically arrive at around 9 pm in the evening and stay for eight to 10 hours. There may be some overlap with your regular caregiver in the morning for a handover. For sleeping nights, your carer will often already be living with you as a live-in carer, or may arrive to help you prepare for the night and be there in the morning to help you get up.

Will the care assistant be in my room all night?

No. For waking nights, your carer will sit in a separate room until you require their support. They will monitor the time so that they can wake you for medication, position changes, and so on. For sleeping nights, they will sleep in a separate room unless you require their support.

I need help getting into and out of bed – can a carer  help?

Yes. The role of your carer  includes helping you to get ready for and into bed in the evening, as well as helping you to get up and get dressed in the morning. They can also provide support in the form of preparing breakfast and helping you to get ready for the day.

How much does night care cost?

Many people find that night care is an affordable option for providing support overnight, especially when compared to residential care. It should be noted that a sleeping night service is slightly cheaper than a waking night one; please contact us for more information.
