Navigating Epilepsy: Training is a priority for us

On our recent training day led by Dr.. Nell Wyatt, the focus was on Epilepsy and how to recognise, manage and treat this challenging condition. There was also a brief discussion on Autism and how it can sometimes be linked with Epilepsy.

Everyone enjoyed the insightful workshop where Dr. Wyatt included a wide variety of topics sharing information on various triggers and knowledge designed to demystify seizures. Empowering our care professionals with the ability to recognise the different and often unique ways epilepsy can show up, means we can manage it easier and quicker.

This reinforced the significance of knowing our customers well and observing pre-seizure activity, as well as post-seizure care. Understanding what exactly happens during a seizure in the brain we are more able to provide effective care specifically for each person's needs.

Dr. Wyatt showed a video demonstrating proper administration and post-medication steps, including the recovery position.  The administration of rescue medication was discussed in detail as well as standard Medication administration, a key role for our care professionals and core to customer safety and well-being.

The link between autism and epilepsy was explored and Dr Wyatt shed light on how these conditions might interplay and affect the day-to-day lives of those we care for.
