Ask Your Pharmacist Week provides a platform for pharmacy public awareness activities across the UK. NHS bodies use social media and local newspapers to signpost people to their community pharmacy as the first port of call for common ailments. The event also serves as a prompt for conversations with key stakeholders at a local level about community pharmacy services.
According to the National Pharmaceutical Association, 96% of the population can get to a pharmacy within 20 minutes by walking or using public transport. Deprived areas, where the public health challenge is pronounced, have a higher than average number of community pharmacies per head of population.
Of all health professionals, pharmacists have the most comprehensive education and training in the use of medicines for the prevention and treatment of disease.

Your local pharmacy is a good first contact point for advice on many common health concerns. While most people will go first to their pharmacy for medicines advice, many people don’t know about the vast range of other healthcare services provided by pharmacies on their doorstep and the high level of expertise available there. Pharmacists are available without appointment and are capable of dealing with a wide range of ailments, as well as being able to offer uniquely accessible advice on maintaining and improving your health. We, here at Bluebird Care Thurrock & Castle Point, are supporting local pharmacies in our area, and helping to raise awareness of this campaign.
