In the first part of our ‘Career in Care’ guide, we covered what to expect working as a care assistant. In the second part of this guide, you will get an insight into a real-life example of a care assistant at Bluebird Care (Thurrock & Castle Point).

We conducted an employee questionnaire to find out information on what it is truly like to work as a care assistant. We spoke to Janina, a lovely care assistant from the Bluebird Care (Thurrock & Castle Point) facility. The findings were very positive overall.

Bluebird Care (Thurrock & Castle Point): What made you want to work in the care industry?

Janina: “I have always thought about going into a career in care for a long-period of time before actually going into it.”

Bluebird Care (Thurrock & Castle Point): What made you decide to apply for a role with Bluebird Care?

Janina: “I heard about Bluebird Care as my friend was currently working at the Hillingdon franchise at the time. She informed me to go and see the lovely manager to apply for a role as she truly enjoys her job and informed me that it is a great company to work for.”

Bluebird Care (Thurrock & Castle Point): Did you have any prior experience in the industry? What training have you received?

Janina: “I have only ever had personal experience before working for Bluebird Care, I had no professional training or qualifications.

However, I received the full essential training once starting my employment, which never ever stops. We learn something new every day and there is always someone on the end of the phone to support you when needed.”

Bluebird Care (Thurrock & Castle Point): What is the day-to-day life like as a care assistant at Bluebird Care?

Janina: “Amazing just amazing. There is always so much to do in the daily care plans, and there are always plenty of customers to care for and look after. There is never a dull moment.”

Bluebird Care (Thurrock & Castle Point): What is one thing you love about your job?

Janina: “Even though this is something that a lot of people do not enjoy about their job, it is something that I truly love… I love getting up in the morning and having a good feeling, knowing it is going to be a great day.”

Bluebird Care (Thurrock & Castle Point): What has been your favourite moment in care so far?

Janina: “I cannot pinpoint one specific moment, but my favourite part is working for such a lovely team. They make every day special.”

Bluebird Care (Thurrock & Castle Point): What advice would you give to someone who is looking for a career in care?

Janina: “My advice would be to just go for it. Stop over-thinking and just go for it.”
