Celebrating the Power of Music in Dementia Care

A highlight of the night was the performance by Our Dementia Choir, a group created to show how music can help people living with dementia reconnect, communicate and feel joy. Their forty-minute set was an incredible reminder of why personalised dementia care, whether delivered at home or through live in support, plays such a vital role in maintaining independence and quality of life.
The choir performed six heartfelt songs. Stand by Me opened the evening, followed by the soothing Three Little Birds which quickly became an audience favourite. The emotional journey continued with You’ll Never Walk Alone, a lively Beatles medley and an energetic dance medley featuring Waka Waka. The performance closed with Sweet Caroline, prompting the whole room to sing along. Watching people living with dementia perform with such confidence and happiness was deeply moving for families, carers and health professionals alike.

Learning, Awareness and Compassion
The evening also included meaningful insights from the NHS Research Team, with Sarah Shelton presenting key findings about dementia, early support and the importance of personalised care planning. A heartfelt video message from the Admiral Nurse at Sherwood Forest Hospitals emphasised the growing need for specialist dementia support for families, especially those who rely on consistent home care or complex care services.
Dance added another emotional dimension. Sidds Studio performed powerful routines to Remember Me by Chris Mann, I Was Here by Beyoncé and This Woman’s Work. These pieces beautifully captured the challenges and triumphs faced by people living with dementia and those who support them every day.
Community Leaders Standing Together

Special thanks to Sherwood Forest Hospitals Governor John Dove, Deputy Mayor of Mansfield Councillor Craig Whitby, and Mansfield MP Steve Yemm for attending and showing their support for improving local dementia care services, including high-quality home care and complex care provision.

A Community United for Better Dementia Support
Chorus for Compassion was more than a fundraising event. It was a reminder of how music, community and compassionate care can bring hope to families living with dementia. As a home care provider in Mansfield supporting people with complex care needs, we are proud to stand alongside our community in raising awareness and strengthening local dementia services.
We look forward to bringing the community together again for Chorus for Compassion 2 next year and continuing our mission to support people to live well at home with dignity, independence and personalised care.
