When Lyn, from Alresford near Winchester, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis more than 30 years ago, her husband became her full-time carer. After he sadly passed away, Lyn turned to Bluebird Care for daily support so she could continue living independently in her own home.
Regular Home Care visits helped for a while, but as her needs increased, Lyn realised she required more consistent support and decided to move to our Live-in Care service.
That’s when May, a Live-in Care Assistant, moved in with Lyn to provide round-the-clock care and companionship. What started as just a care relationship quickly grew into a warm friendship.
Making Unforgettable Memories
During one of their many chats, Lyn mentioned she hadn’t been on holiday for more than ten years. Determined to help, May took it upon herself to make Lyn’s long-forgotten dream a reality.
May began to research accessible hotels and found The Bond Hotel in Blackpool, which is a specialist hotel designed for guests with disabilities and mobility needs, located just off the beach. They booked and set off together for Lyn’s first holiday in over a decade.
Lyn was so excited to tell us all about her trip. “I had such an amazing time and never thought something like this would happen. I didn’t think I’d be able to get out at all, let alone go on holiday! I’d never been to Blackpool before, so it was great to do something new, even at my age.”
When talking about her relationship with May, Lyn said: “May is a wonderful help with my day-to-day care needs but has also been an inspiration to get me out of the house and improve my quality of life. I feel so grateful, because without her, I wouldn’t have been able to go.
We thoroughly enjoyed playing in the arcades and listening to the great music of the 60s! Bluebird’s Live-inCare has given me great health benefits, and May has brought such enthusiasm and made me feel special.
Before May moved in, I was really quite down and low, but she has made me feel alive again, and for that I will always be grateful. This trip has definitely sparked a passion for travel and there's lots of things I now want to do - I’ve started a bit of a bucket list!"
