The Ones You Love Matter. More than anything!

Published: 10/12/2018

Hello, my name is Saffron. I am one of the directors of Bluebird Care Canterbury & Thanet. The picture you are looking at, is of my younger brother, Christopher (AKA Chis or Christo) who lost his battle with cancer in June 2018. He was 40!Today, would have been his 41st birthday. And, while we are devastated by the loss, we would really like to thank, Macmillan Cancer Support and The Margaret Centre, Whipps Cross Hospital, Leytonstone, London, for the great work that they did with Chris, and the support that they gave to us, his family.

In keeping with the person that Chris was, for his funeral, although, he loved flowers and nature, he asked that instead, people donate to The Margaret Centre and Macmillan.  He wanted to make sure that we were making a difference.  To, that end, we asked his friends and family to donate to the charities.  We are so proud to say that, he meant so much, to so many people, that: he raised £430 for the Margaret Centre and £446 for Macmillan.  A grand total of £876!

We are so proud!

Chris, was always the sort of person that had time for everybody, he would always make time to speak, and really listen, to those most would ignore.  He spent most of his working life, working with people with mental health problems, and really making a difference.

In, his honour, we held a Macmillan Coffee morning that raised £181.40.

For her birthday this year, his wife Michelle (AKA The Lovely Shell), asked for donations to Cancer Research because rare cancers do not get much attention or funding because they are so rare. Unfortunately, they are often the most aggressive with a very poor prognosis. They deserve more attention, more research and more funding.  Her initial aim was to raise £100, but actually managed to raise an amazing £770!!!

We, have now decided that, for Christmas this year, we will be only getting Christmas Cards from Macmillan Cancer Support or Caner Research, because he would love that.  We will continue to do what we can to support these charities.
